Our History
BPG Wealth Management's story began back in 1979, when Jeffrey Owens started his career in the financial services industry with John Hancock Mutual Life
Insurance Company’s Portland office, Thomas B. Hood & Associates. As a Linfield graduate and member of their College Athletics Hall of Fame, being a part of one of the most successful sports programs in the country ingrained winning culture into Jeff’s DNA. The vision for his future company came from legendary Linfield Coach Ad Rutschman’s 5 Steps to Success, and its foundation came following the footsteps of the two most successful people he knew, his uncles Tom and Jim Hood.
His determination to succeed at whatever he did turned into success for his clients, and as his work with families and business owners evolved over the years, he realized the demand for more full-service planning. Driven by the desire to build a practice that could help its clients with all their needs, Jeff created the Business Planning Group in 1987.
By 1992, Jeff owned the John Hancock agency and continued through the late nineties before deciding the Business Planning Group was ready to grow as its own practice. Opening its doors as a standalone firm January 1, 2000, the Business Planning Group entered the new millennium with a team serving Oregon and beyond. From its humble beginning as a one-man show, the practice has evolved into an award-winning firm with a growing team of advisors and staff helping clients all over the country build wealth and achieve their goals.
The Business Planning Group became BPG Wealth Management in 2014, highlighting the full scope of services provided in both wealth management and planning for businesses and families. With a vision from the very beginning of building something to live beyond us all, Jeff brought his succession plan to life that same year, offering Alice Tang and his son, Jonathan Owens partnership in the firm. In 2019, BPG Wealth Management added Jessica Porter as a partner, showing its continued commitment to creating a business to last multiple lifetimes.
Throughout the evolution of both the name and the team, BPG Wealth Management has remained firmly rooted in its history, and our identity will always be connected to planning for the future and in giving our clients, their children, their grandchildren, and beyond a financial planning partner for generations.
